Guido names Ed Davey - "This is in some ways a more insidious form of sleaze"

Guido Fawkes has been undercover investigating "the semi-official LibDem policy of exploiting the expenses system for political rather than personal gain", which he believes "is looking likely to become a campaign issue."

As Guido says

"This is in some ways a more insidious form of sleaze."

Guido doesn't mention Ed Davey in his article but mentions other Lib Dem MPs.

"There is circumstantial evidence that Hampshire’s LibDem MPs; Sandra Gidley,
Mike Hancock, Christopher Huhne and the retiring Mark Oaten have manipulated the Communications Allowance to save their party spending some £17,000 on envelope stuffing machines, which they claim are not used for political communications. "

Guido does have a go at Ed Davey in his latest YouTube video:

Don't use taxpayers' money for party political purposes

Thanks to the many bloggers linking this site.

One blogger, Cllr Phil Briscoe, one of the Conservative councillors who have broken the Labour monopoly in Tower Hamlets writes on his blog:

"As a local councillor, we have very clear rules on using council resources for party political purposes - you don't! Using an envelope or a photocopier in the town hall for Conservative use would be a clear misuse of taxpayers money.

He continues:

"For me, this is a simple principle that is easy to understand - but it seems a little complicated for some MPs!"

Crackers

"Anyone who thinks I bought this as a personal benefit to me is absolutely crackers", says Ed Davey about his massive mega maximailer mailing machine.

WE SAY: If this gigantic machine is not for your own party political benefit, then you must be crackers.

Pay the money back, Davey.

"Not all MPs are the same"

"Not all MPs are the same" says Ed Davey on BBC's Question Time last week.

That's true. To my knowledge, only one other MP claimed for a large mailing machine - and the Guardian said about that MP:

“My favourite has to be the £8,000 envelope-stuffing machine Salmond claimed for. For that money, I'll stuff as many envelopes as he wants.”

Other MPs recognise that mailing machines are campaigning items, and need to be paid for out of funds raised by local parties. And even if his local party paid for part of this mega machine, should the taxpayer pick up the tab for such a large proportion of this campaigning item?

Ed Davey finished his chat on BBC Question Time by saying "Thank God for the Daily Telegraph".

Thank God indeed.

Massive mega maximailer mailing machine unearthed

I've found a picture of the mega maximailer mailing machine.

Have you been sent a letter from Davey? If so, you've paid for it.

Parking charges charged

I'm glad our MP doesn't have to worry about actually paying for his parking in his own constituency!

Get your mega maximailer machine here!

Get yourself a mega maximailer here. http://www.pfe.co.uk/maximailer.htm

It's an industrial strength machine to mail the entire constituency every week if he wants.

This machine can do 4500 envelopes an hour - which means he can do 36000 envelopes non-stop in an eight hour day.

If he really pushed the boat out, he could mail the entire constituency EVERY OTHER DAY.

Does he really need such an industrial strength machine????

Have a look yourself

Investigate it yourself. It's online at the Parliament's own website here:
http://alturl.com/qsoo

Then look at the Parliamentary Green Book to see what Davey can legitimately claim:
http://alturl.com/ar3q

This website cost the taxpayer nothing.

This website is to provide an information service and has been produced at no cost to the taxpayer.

It certainly didn't cost £7343.74!

Davey's gigantic mail machine

MP Ed Davey claimed £7343.74 from taxpayers for a mail machine.

In MPs Parliamentary Green Book, the rules states clearly “Claims must not
provide a benefit to a party political organisation.”

One Guardian journalist wrote: “My favourite has to be the £8,000 envelope-stuffing machine (one MP) claimed for. For that money, I'll stuff as many envelopes as he wants.”

Mr Davey’s tetchy response to the BBC was “If anybody thinks I have bought this machine for my own benefit, they must be crackers.”

The Green Book allows for the purchase or lease of photocopiers, faxes, scanners, phones, PCs and printers.

IT DOESN’T MENTION MAIL MACHINES COSTING OVER £7000 WHICH CAN MAIL NEARLY 4000 VOTERS AN HOUR.

WE SAY: If this gigantic machine is not for your own party political benefit, then you must be crackers.

PAY THE MONEY BACK, DAVEY
